"A stunning black and white that is amazingly sensual. It proves that even hidden behind a beautiful guitar, just a hint of feminine curves can tantalize the mind."

For all of you "art viewers" who don't get it, this site has the word Deviant in its name which means that some of the material may be on or over the edge. I am personally offended by about 10-15% of what i see on this website but I can accept this in light of the fact that I actually enjoy the other 85-90%. If you don't like what you see on deviantART, find a safer place to browse.

It seems like they need this kinda work pretty bad to make their 'profane' statements....

oh look, and yet another image of a woman being a sex object making daily deviation, because this site is about 'appreciation of art' and not finding any excuse to look at naked women. I love that as usual even though it's against the site rules to post naked women without an adult filter (so that those of us who really, really try to avoid having to look at women being made into sex objects no matter where they go on this site can avoid this), they let this through because hey, woman's ass, and it's art, and she's tied up, even better! How dare I complain, right? Funny how you never see stuff like this posted with men on it, and also funny how all across this site artists censor pictures of men who aren't even completely naked, because it's only women whose bodies we should constantly have to stare at.

It doesn't require a filter because no genitalia are showing. You can't see my breasts and you can't see my vaginal area. If you see me as a sex object, that's your problem, not mine. The amount of clothing being worn should not automatically make me be seen as a sexual thing. I'm not 'tied up' I'm wearing something that just has a lot of straps. It's a natural human body. Why are you so offend. Please take your 'oh no women being sexualized' elsewhere. It really isn't welcome here because as much as you might not like being sexualized, some people do and it isn't your job to tell us whether or not we can be sexy.

"oh look, and yet another image of a woman being a sex object making daily deviation,"

Yup, I think, when I bothered to pay attention, I only caught one day that they didn't have a full blown "sex object" as a DD.

"because this site is about 'appreciation of art' and not finding any excuse to look at naked women."

Course, since there are a TON of artists on here who only do nude or scantily clad drawings or photos of women, because at this point in their lives that's the only thing that inspires apparently... , chances are in favor that a decent amount are going to get featured even if DA wasn't doing it on purpose to keep folk a click'n and joining etc... (and they probably ARE).

"I love that as usual even though it's against the site rules to post naked women without an adult filter (so that those of us who really, really try to avoid having to look at women being made into sex objects no matter where they go on this site can avoid this), they let this through because hey, woman's ass, and it's art, and she's tied up, even better!"

Your point is valid and I am pretty sure I've seen that happen on a DD before. Whilst I agree with you in spirit, here I have to admit the evidence that she is in the "scantily clad" category since those things you think she is tied up with are actually part of a bikini of some sort. Though I admit at casual glance from behind they do indeed look a bit like small versions of the bondage straps you see in these DD's all the time. Add in the guitar and I just can't come along with this being much of a nude. Sex object though? Most definitely agree!

Course as to other people getting away with nude images that aren't filtered, DA only knows about the ones that are reported and most folk either don't care or don't care enough to go out of their way to report them. I reported a few but at the end of the day its just a drop in the bucket and there isn't any automated system currently employable that DA can use to fix the problem. People have to care enough for long enough to convince people to follow the rules and... they don't...

"How dare I complain, right?"

Nothin wrong with complaining. Especially when you're right! (and you mostly are). Its the squeaky wheel gets the grease and the quiet ones who get shoved under the rug.

"Funny how you never see stuff like this posted with men on it,"

I do actually, I commented on a DD yesterday that was basically just two pictures of a nude guy rolling around on the floor holding his crotch (and his other head too <that was the artistic part I guess>). But I assume you are just using the word "never" for emphasis of the comparative rarity vs. scantily clad or nude females in which case you would be correct in spirit.

" and also funny how all across this site artists censor pictures of men who aren't even completely naked, because it's only women whose bodies we should constantly have to stare at."

I have to, for the moment, concede that point due to lack of evidence either way. Generally, I only click on such pictures because they are thrown up as DD's in my face when I get to the bottom of some page of comments. DA isn't really a place I look for such (there are other sites for that) so I don't know what the censorship situation is out there. That said, even though I can't claim enough personal experience to equal "evidence", I know of a few where they didn't censor (and a few that were breaking the rules with erections posted, etc...).

Thank you for the thought provoking comment.

I would just like to add in addition to SaintOfTheDragons comment below that I do believe I have seen male nudes reaching the Daily Deviation. This is a community for sharing art, critiquing and helping each other grow. DD's are nominated by you and I...maybe more male nudes should be nominated. Show these guys the appreciation they deserve.

"DD's are nominated by you and I"
To put into perspective; We can all suggest pieces to the Community Volunteers or a Staff members. But they get the last say in which gets a DD.

Here's one pet peeve I have with the DD's that fall under the nude/pin-up/fetish categories;
I find many pieces that get a DD in these categories to be either too low quality (on the technical side) or too distasteful.
To remedy this I can suggest pieces to the Community Volunteers or Staff members and hope my suggestions are chosen over those of (imho) lower quality.
To find pieces I believe are up to a good standard I would have to search through nude/fetish/pin-up galleries and spend many hours a day doing so because there are just so many pieces in these categories.

I've done this a few times and I found that after the first initial pages of a gallery/group these galleries turn into cesspits.
After plowing through the pages I wanted to bleach my eyes, I even gagged at seeing some of the pieces.
Adding to this I even ended up reporting deviations because they were in obvious breach of the rules on pornography. (penetration, spread genitalia, you name it).
I would have to do all this sacrifice everyday just to have a chance at (imho) better DD's in these categories.

Sometimes I get the feeling that Community Volunteers or Staff members choose fetish/pin-up pieces based on the most part on how much the pieces arouse them sexually (how sexy/daring a piece is), whilst factors like technique and creativity play much smaller roles in selecting who gets a DD.
Thats the feeling I get when so very often they give DD's to pieces that are just a millimeter away from breaching TOS, or when the pieces are of very low quality technically.

I actually like looking at artistic nudes, pin-ups and fetish photography.
This is the exact reason why it irks me a bit to see (imho) lower quality pieces so very often.
If I disliked artistic nudes, pin-ups and fetish photography, I would just ignore them.

I don't believe this is the case at all.
Photos with nudes in them can't all be categorized under one label.  Many are crap, I agree. Many are used to objectify, but this one has a different air about it.  Note none of her privates are visible, it's not designed to be 'that' type of art. It is a nude, and everything that goes with it, but not for sex purposes as stated.
And men model as well, granted, in lower quantities.  I'm not trying to justify the unbalanced ratio of male model:female model, but it's out there.  I personally believe people should depict a balance of model gender, not just depict their sexual attraction, but honestly, getting angry about it won't change anything. Start taking photos of your own, female models modestly dressed, see if it sends a message. Make a personal resolution. Try to shake up the status quo a little. Getting mad and commenting just clogs up the internet.

Did I miss a memo? Do bikinis count as nude now? (not to mention a bikini plus big arse guitar!) Isn't there still a scantily clad category anymore or did we all decide to skip right over it?

S'okay, no one else seems to be able to either... LOL

The funny thing is if this poor model, who does in fact quite happily do nudes elsewhere!, actually makes the mistake of reading her comments section. sees a tone of folk having deep intense conversations on the nudity of this and thinks to herself in bewilderment, "But... I was actually wearing clothes in this one!??!" XD XD XD

Then again maybe she is laughing her arse off right now!!

You should be happy. Its a good picture and, while this isn't relevant to whether you should be happy or not, I liked this picture. I actually had a positive comment on the artistic value of this piece elsewhere in the comments where I was explaining to another (who didn't see the artistic value) about the relationships between the shape of the guitar and your body posed thus etc... Sadly I buried that in a debate that was destined to be hidden. I should have reposted the positive artistic part of that comment separately.

Sorry I could resist being drawn into the debates. It was a slow unemployed day in a small town in the middle of nowhere with no gas money and joining such debates, though I try to be polite and logical, is probably something that should be described as a guilty pleasure of mine.

Thank you for not blocking me for indulging. It would make me sad to think I had caused enough harm to anyone to be blocked.

And thank you for adding more beautiful and professional content to DA. Without folk like you surely everyone save the furries and mlp's would have left in favor of Tumblr and such a long time ago. :)

You're comments were hidden not because of the combative nature but because the other side was being hidden. I do not like going onto a page and seeing that 2 people got into it, reading 1 side and not the other. It's frustrating. I also got sick of it after the first few responses and didn't bother to read past the idiocy of how I'm, apparently, objectifying myself. I don't blame you for debating. I do it all the time. I love debating it's fine, just... lets not on my page. It will be for naught as I'll hide your comments when I hide theirs. If you have a point you can't help but make, that's fine, I understand, trust me, I do, but just know it probably will wind up being hidden so say what you have to say in one comment and leave it.

I thank you greatly for your input and compliments. They please me greatly and boost my ego like no other. Thank you.

If you are interested in debating or have a tumblr yourself, though you may seem displeased by it, here is my very opinionated blog kindlewood.tumblr. My main DA, with the rest of my art is ShaeKindlewood I'm open to debates there as well. And while I thoroughly enjoyed your take on why I was posed like this - The reason I am posed like this is because previously in this shoot I had been posing with my cello but my cello is my baby and I would never handle it like this, holding it by the neck. The guitar, in addition to being far lighter than the cello, is smaller and belonged to the photographer who had picked it up at a garage sale for 5$ as a decoration because it no longer worked. So holding it by the neck wasn't a thing to worry about and it was just a concept we were interested in trying. :)

I don't know  "tantalize the mind"  says sex purpose. What air are you sensing here that isn't sexual?
The problem here is that dA decides to showcase sexualized women as the cream of the crop again and again. They make that decision.
You don't have to show privates to objectify someone or sexualize them.
"Getting mad and commenting just clogs up the internet"- i have to say that's hypocritical, you know?
I halfway agree that getting mad doesn't help sometimes, but if people collectively get mad? Then they can make a difference. I do agree that making your own statement with your own work is a great effective way to get your voice out there.
Girls and women are just fucking tired of seeing the same crap. This picture being showcased just echos the daily life of being plastered with this shit from all kinds of sources, in media and real life, it's unavoidable in today's world.

Also just because somebody else says 'tantalize the mind' and seems sexual to you, doesn't mean it was meant that way. If you take something that way, it shows how sexual you are.

Note I wasn't commenting on dA admin's perception of the piece.  Hey, dA may have a problem, but I wasn't talking about that.
No offense, but it seems like you didn't see the solutions I provided. I'm saying getting mad and commenting won't get the job done.  That's our jobs. It's fine to get angry, and it's fine to comment, but some kind of active push in the opposite direction would be useful.  And I don't believe hypocritical is the right word- at all.
Let me tell you, I'm all against the objectification of women, and men for that matter.  However, this isn't even as dirty as some fine art paintings you'll find in museums- it's about perception.  I believe that when fine art gets mixed up with borderline pornographic pieces like what happens on a platform such as deviantART, people will get the two mixed up. It's natural, not blaming anyone.
Now it may be I need a perception change. Maybe I'm on the other side of the line here, maybe it really is to be legitimately considered objectification. I'll seriously think about it. However, yelling and cursing didn't get me to this point! It's ineffective. I think I would agree with you- but I don't, just because of the tone you take on.
Well, that's my bit.

I was referring back to the original point of the original comment of cassannder, in which they made their point about it being a problem of DA.
"Our jobs?" Who's jobs...?
Didn't I say I partly agreed with you?
I mean hypocritical because you make it out to be useless in commenting to change someone's perspective/opinion, but you're doing just that since you're responding to people's comments.
It doesn't need to be really dirty, the point is that this stuff is so commonplace, it's everywhere.
Nobody's yelling.
I cursed out of my tired frustration and always seeing sexualized women and girls everywhere, it wasn't a personal attack.
So instead viewing the problem in an honest light, you're saying you won't agree with me simply because of "the tone I take on (?)." Well damn, that was spiteful.

First off, a piece doesn't have to mean anything. It means my photographer thought I should pose with a guitar, I liked the idea and did so. A 'dumb girl'? Really? You don't like a picture so you insult the model? Pretentious? Maybe you should pick up a dictionary. To be pretentious is to make yourself seem or claim something you are not. My picture is not pretentious, however your use of this word is. Pin up, for your information, is widely defined as any photograph of a sexually attractive individual (usually women) worth putting on a wall. The term was coined when soldiers would pin pictures up on their walls. Even DA's definition of Pin-up is any photograph focusing on clothing, makeup, lighting or posing. Hiding the guitar? No, I'm covering my bum with it. That's a pretty simple concept. I'm not naked. I'm covered with a bikini. You are very simple and close minded if you feel you need to verbally attack ones art all because you don't seem to like it. Now, take your disgusting negativity away from my page. It isn't welcome here.

And the 'oh no objectifying women' bs. That can go, too.

Actually, yeah it is. Allow me to translate to simpleton terms what you're saying: 'Oh no she's sexy and she's flaunting it! This is so horrible!' If I want to be sexy and flaunt it and be in strappy bikinis or even *gasp* nude, I can. Don't like it? Not my problem. If you don't like girls flaunting their bodies and being proud about their physique thats fine. You don't have to look at it. You don't have to comment and you don't have to do it yourself. It does NOT, in any universe, give you the authority or right to police people around, especially those who are perfectly happy and content. Thanks. Now go.
